SBC

I really don't know what to say about the convention.  If you don't know what I'm talking about, I was privileged to travel with my pastor to Indianapolis to the Southern Baptist Convention.  He was invited to speak at a church planting round table.

Anyway, I felt like I was in a time warp.  Most everybody was elderly, or fashion deficient, or trying way too hard to be fashion profecient.  Everybody wants to wear their lanyards EVERYWHERE.  Felt like the scene from Waynes World.  There was an annoying booth telling me to witness to Indianapolis by handing out tracks.  Then they would lovingly shove them in my face and wait for me to decline meaning I must hate lost people.  Or maybe it's that I feel tracks are a cheap way to witness, aside from actually TALKING TO PEOPLE!  Good grief, don't get me started.  And I wasn't really quite sure what was happening.  Fish out of water my friend.

But for all their idiosyncrasies, the SBC is the most powerful missions organization in the world.  They may be slow to come around on current trends, but for the most part, they want to see the kingdom built.

….except for the annoying come-over crew that wants to argue parliamentary procedures, boycott Disney, and deem the KJV as the official version of the SBC….you should hear these guys get all riled up over stupid stuff!.

TypePad Upgrade?

Dear Typepad,

I don't like your upgrades.  My text is delayed after typing it.  This is frustrating.  It is like watching someone talk to me on a cell-phone through a window.  It's like…it's like…it's like I'm working on a PC!

Please speed up this new interface.  It's slow and bites.

Sincerely,
Jeremy

Twitter

So I must admit I am digging Twitter.  Yes it may have its issues.  But for me it is so much easier to Twitter than it is to blog.  Yes I suck at blogging.  But if you have me on a reader you don't really mind.  If you don't have me on a reader what can I say?

But until things calm down for me – which they have began to this week – thank you Jesus! – Follow me on Twitter.  I see some amusing things during the week!

The Big Move

I can speak for our entire staff….these past couple of weeks have been insane!

Personally, to use a term from Ben Arment, I've been in the perfect storm of stress.  Sick baby, week long hospital stay, IVF or not?, Moving our house, taking on the new Admin position, and moving a church!

So the only thing left is that last one – moving the church.  I'm so pumped about this Sunday I can't even describe.  It is going to be off the hook!  This whole move is going to launch Lifepoint into a new level.  Here are some things you can pray about:

  • Thank God for his provision of Chancellor High School.
  • Pray that some school space will be made available to us – sill iffy in one area.
  • Pray for our services this Sunday and that a great harvest will take place!
  • Pray for Chancellor H.S.  Pray that God will bless them beyond measure for their generosity.  They thought they were just getting a Sunday tenant….may it be much greater than that!
  • Pray for the staff of LIfepoint.  Pray that we will have wisdom beyond our years, strength for the day, and a proper balance between work and home.
  • Pray hard as a weapon against spiritual warfare.  Keep your guard up!

See you Sunday!!!!!!

Church Planting & Painting

Painting is a lot like church planting.

If I was to just walk into our house and slap some paint on, over time the paint would begin to peel off and look real nasty.  So we must sand, and wipe down, and patch holes, sand some more, tape, lay down tarp, prime, maybe prime again, and finally paint…and maybe even paint again.

The point is, it took us forever before we were even able to paint.  And that sucked.  We wanted to just paint.

But I think many church planters get in the same boat.  They just want to open the doors.  They forget that there is a lot of prep work that goes into it.  And most of it isn't fun.

A few years ago I met a guy named Devin Hudson who was starting Grace Point Church in Vegas.  The dude had been there a year and hadn't even held a service.  He raised money, did servant evangelism projects, got the legal side of the church set up, got the business side setup, cast vision, cast vision, cast vision, and cast vision.  Just in the few days I spent with him I realized how extremely difficult and time consuming church planting is.

So if your thinking about it, take a gut check.  Make sure your called; make sure you have a work ethic; and make sure you do the prep work first!

WIBO

Went to WIBO yesterday in Reston, VA with my Pastor.  It's nice to have something to go to that doesn't take several days, is close, and you get to hear some great speakers.  I'll post some key thoughts later.  Missed Perry, Ed, and most of John Burke.  But the one's I did see were well worth the wait.

Ran into Ron.  Only got to say high for a few seconds but it was great to see him again.  He has to be one of the sharpest guys in church planting in the country.  And super guy.  I had to privileged of working with his bro-n-law in Texas.

Also ran into Los.  Still sportn' the skull shirt.

Jim Henry introduced himself to me.  Great to meet that guy.

Had a great lunch the staff of Image Church-awesome guys.  And Chris is sharp.

Ran into Matt – headset on and ready to go.  He did a phenomenal job.

Of course saw Ben.  Hate this guy is leaving the area.  We'll miss him!

I also had several people tell me they were praying for Wyatt.  The blog community is incredible!
